It’s very angry and has about 3 dozen razor blades that can cut you from 5 feet away.
It’s also missing some or all of its back leg, so it better get used to me. There’s a sibling missing a paw that I’ll try to catch next and then TNR the Mom.
(They seem healthy so I’m guessing congenital defect, but no way these guys will survive long-term outside.)

Are you keeping this one and the sibling?

Awww, cute! Good job taking them in; here’s hoping there’s nothing majorly wrong with them .

Starving. He was gagging on the dry food I give the TNRs and had zero willpower to avoid me with wet food.

I’m going to work on socializing them...I’ve never had a kitten. I might keep or try to find a home through the shelter a friend volunteers at.

Easiest way to socialize kittens is through food, water and warmth. (don’t put the kitten in water - that will have adverse effects for kitten and likely your own health).
Once they realize they're not going to die from a lack of available food they chill out pretty quick.

DAW! Kittay!
My wife used to have a 3-legged cat, named Stumpy. She found him hiding between their house and the shed, during a thunderstorm. Somebody had cut one of his hind legs clean in half. They ended up having to amputate the rest of it. I miss him, he was a good kitty.

Very cute. Hopefully she socializes well. Angry cats remind me of "My Cat From Hell." Do you have an adult cat that is can learn from?

Oh my god, poor baby.

He’s pretty fiesty right now but I took him to work to keep an eye on him. The car ride either scared him witless or calmed him down...

I took in a 6 month old cat from the backyard a few years ago who LOVES other cats. He also lost his buddy a few weeks ago when Skunk passed away so hopefully he will be good with this little one.

Yeah, he had a rough start to life. He was a big orange poof- ball, very skitt ish his whole life, but very sweet. He didn’t trust a lot of people, but he liked me right away.

We had a huge feral cat we named Socks. He would come into our garage at night and sleep in Scooby’s bed, mooch her food, basically everything every parent hates in a kid’s boyfriend. We tried to catch him to take him to the vet, because he had a crippled leg from something, but he was too cagey and strong. Later, I noticed him limping around the neighborhood on two bad legs, then three. He disappeared a while after that. Nothing we could do.

If you can socialize the little thing it’s a very rewarding experience....don’t rush it and take it slow. We kept our 12-week old in a medium-sized dog kennel in our rec room when we first trapped her. Would slowly reach in and offer food until she would start coming to us. One of the family would also sleep by the cage every night to get her used to the idea of us being around and not hurting her.
Use kitty body langauge to help her understand you’re no threat...slowly blink at her, it’s seen as a sign of friendliness and non-threatening-ness on your part. Also, as stupid as it sounds, fake groom yourself (pretend you’re a cat cleaning your paws with your tongue) every once and awhile....again, they see it as a sign of ‘if they’re calm enough to be cleaning themselves, they don’t want to hurt me’.
At any rate...I think you’ve said you socialized older cats before, so you probably know the drill.

I actually made contact with a rescue/TNR group that I haven’t worked with before and they seem very interested in helping - apparently another kitten they worked with made national news for a prosthetic limb someone designed.
But for now this little guy is silently hissing at me and glaring from the back of the carrier.

Aww, poor guy. I’ve kept tabs on my backyard kitties for a few years and I’ve definitely lost a few, but some have lived pretty long, healthy lives at this point. There’s a really loud chubby cross-eyed rascal I call Biscuit and he’s just as interested in pets as food. Just does not want to be indoors AT ALL.

We have one who likes to hang in our front yard as if he lives there, but he doesn’t want to be touched. Scooby does not like him there, but can’t seem to do much about it.
